About This Project

  • Providing artistically excellent programming.
  • Performing classic, contemporary and cutting-edge dance with virtuosity and energy.
  • Advancing the art form.

These make up the mission and vision of North Carolina Dance Theatre.

The Company is renowned for the versatility of its dancers and artistic programming. We recruit choreographers with diverse styles that will challenge the dancers and enrich our audiences. Artistic Director Jean-Pierre Bonnefoux is always looking for ways for Dance Theatre’s artists to be inspired, and in turn, inspire. Working with the world’s most talented choreographers inspires our dancers, and vice versa.

In just a few weeks, young Czech choreographer Jiri Bubenicek will return to Dance Theatre to do just that… to inspire our dancers and audiences. He is creating a new work for our Contemporary Fusion series at the Knight Theater, April 25-27. Jean-Pierre says that Jiri Bubenicek is “a rising star, and dance companies all over the world are beginning to show great interest in his choreography. Dance Theatre is proud to be the first American company, after New York City Ballet, to work with him."

We hope you will support us in these efforts by helping to fund Jiri’s travel to and from Charlotte, and his stay while he is here.

Our commissioners and underwriters impact North Carolina Dance Theatre in the most intimate and unique way possible. You can join this group and help bring to life a dance work that touches an entire audience, providing them an experience that evokes emotion, inspiration and awe. During the process, you can also have the opportunity to develop meaningful relationships with the artists involved in EVERY aspect of the work, from choreographer and répétiteur to our dancers and artistic staff, even to the costume and lighting designers where possible.

We have a lead commissioner for this project, and he has challenged us to find additional support in individuals like you, who have not been part of this process before. For a limited time, Wells Fargo is also providing a 1:1 match for this project to help us find new supporters and double the impact of each gift!
