About This Project

Step into the Frye galleries on a weekday afternoon and chances are you’ll find a group of arts enthusiasts gathered around a painting discussing the feelings it evokes, and chatting about the memories it prompts. Head upstairs to the studio and you’ll find another group creating art together while listening to poetry.

This is here:now – a free arts engagement program for individuals living with dementia and their care partners. Participants gain a sense of normalcy, “stepping outside the disease” to build community while viewing, discussing and making art with trained arts educators.

Creative opportunities for people living with dementia and their care partners are limited, especially for those in the mid-to-late stages of the disease. To address this need, we are planning to expand our existing here:now program to add components that continue to serve participants as the disease progresses.

Your contribution towards our goal of $7,468 will make it possible for us to launch Meet Me at the Movies as part of our expanded here:now program.

Meet Me at the Movies is a unique film experience designed specifically for people with memory loss and their care partners. Short clips from classic films are shown, followed by audience discussion and reminiscence, guided by a moderator–connecting participants to the kinds of memories that never leave us.

The program will be offered quarterly, and will be free and open to all.
