About This Project

Imagine walking out onto a baseball field and seeing fans packed into the stands to cheer you on. Imagine running the bases, throwing a pitch, or taking your turn at bat. We want everyone who visits the Tampa Baseball Museum at the Al Lopez House to have that experience. The Ybor City Museum Society needs your help to create a small-scale baseball stadium right in the middle of this new museum, which will be opening later this year. Housed in the historic home that Tampa native and baseball legend Al Lopez lived in for 50 years, the museum will celebrate all the leagues and teams of Tampa’s past – including Little League, high school, college, amateur leagues, and Minor and Major Leagues – as well as the over 80 MLB players who are from Tampa.

This small-scale stadium will feature decals on the floor for the grass of the outfield, the bases, and the red clay of the infield. It will also be surrounded by large wall graphics of the inside of Al Lopez Field filled with excited fans. This area will serve as the museum’s educational area, so several bleacher-style benches will be tucked along the walls that can be pulled out for school groups to use while learning a lesson or for groups while they listen to guest speakers.

Please help us keep our benchwarmers in the game.

Your donation, large or small, will bring an inspiring learning opportunity to the Tampa Baseball museum at the Al Lopez House. Here’s the score:
