About This Project

The Master Chorale invites you to fund scholarships for 100 High School Choral Students to attend Festival of Voices this fall and to bring top quality guest musicians and faculty to work with these fantastic students.

The Master Chorale's Festival of Voices is a two-day outreach event and workshop for a diverse group of high school choral students and their teachers from all over Florida presented in cooperation with the University of South Florida in Tampa.  Students participate in one of two "All-State" quality honors choruses led by internationally renowned faculty, including the Artistic and Music Director of The Master Chorale of Tampa Bay.  Students receive their music ahead of time in school in order to study prior to the Festival.  Students then work closely with the Festival directors in intense rehearsals over the two-day period focusing on musicianship skills, voice building, and ensemble performance. The combined choirs then rehearse and perform 'side-by-side' with The Master Chorale of Tampa Bay and University of South Florida college choirs (including USF Chamber Singers) as part of the Festival's Finale Concert - approximately 500 singers in all.

Over the course of the summer and early school year, choir directors throughout Florida are contacted by both letters and email to invite their participation in the Festival.  The Festival draws on average over 350 students from over 30 schools representing 10 Florida Counties. Festival of Voices allows high school students the opportunity to work with seasoned professionals on traditional and exciting new choral repertoire as well as providing for a large choral experience that is generally unavailable to to students of that age.  This event gives students an active, participatory role in learning about and singing great choral music, and also offers access to one of the nation's foremost symphonic choirs.  Following this experience, students understand the history, performance and cultural contexts of the selected choral works, as well as the role singing can play in their lives after high school and college.

Festival of Voices 2014 is scheduled for September 26 & 27, 2014 at the University of South Florida School of Music.
