About This Project

Each spring Gulf Coast Youth Choir hosts the annual Young Voices Festival.  This event is specifically for elementary and middle school treble choirs seeking a quality educational and community-building experience.  It is an opportunity for young singers to perform for a nationally recognized choral specialist in a relaxed, non-competitive environment that allows them to learn more about the choral art among other young singers.

During the Festival, individual choirs from around the state participate in a 30-minute workshop with the guest clinician.  Choirs also rotate through three fun, interactive interest sessions with local experts in fields such as:  World Drumming, Orff Orchestra and Folk Dancing .  The Festival concludes with a concert in which each choir performs a selection of their choice and then joins together to perform selected music conducted by the clinician.  This performance is open to the public, and the community, parents and supporters of each organization are encouraged to attend.

Past clinicians of the Festival include:  Elena Sharkova, David Brunner, Henry Leck and Rollo Dillworth.

Funding for this project will help secure facilities and performance venue for the finale concert, provide honorariums for the choral clinician and local experts for break-out sessions, and be used to commission a brand new musical composition for premiere by the participants at the finale concert.  The budget breakdown for the Festival is as follows:
