Inspire young people to engage in conversations about race and justice.

About the Project

Bring a compelling theatrical world premiere to the stage and to high school students across the metro Atlanta area! This spring Synchronicity Theatre will produce an innovative new show called Beyond Reasonable Doubt: The Troy Davis Project.  Commissioned by Synchronicity Theatre 4 years ago, this powerful play by Lee Nowell (an Atlanta playwright) presents a balanced investigation of diverse beliefs about race, justice, and the death penalty.

It is 2011 and Troy Davis is about to be executed for the murder of a white police officer, catalyzing worldwide debates about racial justice and capital punishment. Burned-out activist Alison finds purpose in efforts to exonerate Davis, exasperating her corporate lawyer husband. Civil Rights veteran Mary and her grandson Curtis clash on capital punishment in light of a dark trauma in their past.

Beyond Reasonable Doubt is stunning work of theatre that examines social justice issues relevant today. Now more than ever, it is important that we bring this discussion of race, justice and the death penalty out into the open and onto the stage. So we ask you to please help fund this exciting and educational project by donating to the campaign. Donating a few dollars now can help us support our playwright, fund the rehearsal and production process for this show’s first incarnation on stage, and bring this powerful discussion to under-served high schools across Atlanta by subsidizing field trips to see the show as well as pre and post show workshops for all students.

Community Partners: Kenny Leon’s True Colors Theatre Company, The Ben Marion Institute, Georgians for Alternatives to the Death Penalty, National Center for Civil and Human Rights, Emory’s Ethics and the Arts program.
