A celebration of Atlanta's Historic Sites

About the Project

The Atlanta Preservation Center is a 501c(3) nonprofit whose mission is to advocate, educate and promote the preservation of Atlanta’s architecturally, historically and culturally significant buildings, neighborhoods and landscapes. Our Phoenix Flies Celebration is an annual event showcasing Atlanta’s historic sites. For 16 days the Atlanta Preservation Center and its partners offer hundreds of FREE events all across the City.

Join us March 5-20, 2016 as we celebrate the history that makes Atlanta special.  The Phoenix Flies Celebration is organized and coordinated by the Atlanta Preservation Center with the help of our more than 90 preservation partners.  This incredible event is unlike anything else offered in the City.  Participants have the opportunity to explore events all over the city, as well as discover hidden treasures in their own neighborhoods.  Each year we strive to highlight a broad cross-section of Atlanta’s historic resources through community groups, nonprofits, corporations, museums, private interest groups, religious organizations and interested individuals. Visitors can discover and explore Atlanta’s historic buildings and sites, enjoy walking or bicycle tours, and participate in lectures discussing what makes Atlanta distinctive. This year’s offerings will include sites in all corners of the City, including partners such as DOCOMOMO, the Fernbank Natural History Museum, historic Herndon House, Hammond House and the Wren’s Nest, the Watson Brown Foundation’s Goodrum House, the historic Howell Station neighborhood, the Piedmont Driving Club, Westview Cemetery, and the King Plow Arts Center, among many, many others.  Check our website for a complete posting of events.

All events are free to the public and most require no reservations. The Phoenix Flies Celebration is an unmatched opportunity to see Atlanta’s historic treasures with a new perspective. Experience, interact and learn about the history that surrounds and impacts our lives on a daily basis. Your donation will be matched dollar for dollar and will go directly to covering the costs of printing and marketing materials, promotion, and schedule management, which will allow thousands access to the hundreds of free events presented by the Atlanta Preservation Center and our more than 90 participating partners during Phoenix Flies, March 5-20, 2016.
