About the Project

About Moving in the Spirit

Moving in the Spirit is an award-winning dance program that educates, inspires and unites young people across Atlanta through an innovative blend of modern dance studies and leadership training. Our program encompasses high quality dance instruction, performance opportunities, service learning, education and mentoring - all offered at little to no cost, to ensure that every child can benefit from our services regardless of their family's ability to pay. In the safe and structured environment that Moving in the Spirit provides, our students discover their expressive capacity, forge nurturing relationships with peers and role models, and learn tools to overcome obstacles and prepare for a bright future. When they exit our program, Moving in the Spirit students do so as resilient, courageous and compassionate leaders who are prepared to meet the complex challenges of the 21st century and transform our city as agents of social change.

About the Project

Men in Motion, a program of Moving in the Spirit, is built on the idea that investing in the assets of our young men can help them navigate the negative influences in their lives. Over the past fourteen years, Men in Motion has successfully combined dance instruction with leadership training for young men ages 10-13, helping them set goals and stay on a path to achievement.

On February 20-21, our young dancers will showcase their talents during a performance at The Beam Theater in Atlanta, GA. This year's Men in Motion Show features works new and old that display the courage and confidence in our young men. The theme of the show, "Heroes of Tomorrow," exemplifies the idea that the youth we are raising up today will become tomorrow's leaders.

Your support will pay for:

  • Faculty and guest artists creating contemporary dances with our young men
  • Costuming, props and supplies needed for the culminating performances
  • Underwriting operational expenses associated with the program so that these costs are not passed on to participating students
