About the Project

Free Theater Training for Some of Atlanta’s Most At-Risk Kids
This fall, Out of Hand is providing a 15-week musical theater class for the entire 5th grade of Hope-Hill Elementary during the school day! The program is lead by two teachers and accompanied by a pianist, and will culminate in a presentation for the entire school and families, and a trip to see A Christmas Carol at The Alliance.

Why Theater?

Out of Hand’s theater training for kids is fun exposure to the arts and more: it is designed to developed students’ collaboration, communication, creativity and confidence, skills identified by employers as critical for success in the 21st century. The impact of arts education on academic performance is undeniable, particularly for students from low-socioeconomic backgrounds: According to the National Endowment for the Arts’ latest report, low-income students with arts-rich experiences are five times more likely to graduate from high school than low-income students without those experience, and more than three times as likely to earn a B.A.!
