Together, we can beat the heat!

About the Project

It's the dog days of summer and the two of the three HVACs that preserve the history of the entire community need to be replaced. Unlike the way you heat and cool your home, the museum's collection need to be maintained with constant temperature and humidity controls 24-hours a day, 7 days a week, 52 weeks a year. Replacing these HVACs will cost $17,000.  So far we have already raised $7000.

Sandy Spring Museum cares for thousands of objects, photos, journals, letters, paintings and more on behalf of the community.  Treasures include all of the minutes from the longest-running social clubs in the United States (more than 150 years of minutes from the Sandy Spring Farmers Club, the Women's Mutual Improvement Society, and others); family documents from as early as the 1720s, including letters, deeds, contracts, wills, and diaries; more than 4000 photographs of houses, businesses, individuals and families, and landscapes; maps and deeds; manumission papers, and many more irreplaceable items.

Stewardship of the museum collection is one of our greatest collective responsibilities.  We take seriously our obligation to provide proper physical storage, care for the collections, and associated documentation. We hold the museum collections in trust for the public.

It's up to all of us to care for the community's history.  Can we count on you to play your part?
