The human spark that brings learning to life!

About the Project

Let’s make sparks fly!

Children’s Museum of Atlanta is rich with immersive, hands-on activities and exhibits, and when coupled with dynamic human interaction the learning experience is enhanced exponentially. It is with this goal in mind that the Museum launched The Imaginator Program in the fall of 2005. By pairing the Museum’s physical attributes with the element of human interaction, our exhibits are brought to life and become the spark that connects the Museum experience with concrete learning. The Imaginator Program employs a troupe of local actors called Imaginators, each of whom has an extensive background in children’s theater, creative dramatics, and education. The Imaginators are an essential part of Museum programming, adding an additional performance layer to the rich, multi-sensory experience.

Imaginator Mini-Musicals: Twice daily the Imaginators perform an original 20-minute musical for our visitors, referencing current exhibit themes and lessons. All musicals are written, directed and performed by the Imaginators. When they are not performing the musical, the Imaginators are engaged in other interactive Museum programming such as story time, dance programs, and more.

Community Outreach: The Imaginators are also integral to CMA’s outreach programs.  They routinely deliver performances and programming directly to at-risk students in Title 1 Schools and child development centers located in some of Atlanta’s most impoverished neighborhoods.

Imaginator-on-the-Go (IOG): IOG is a component of CMA’s in-school field trip program. Through the IOG program, Imaginators bring Museum programs and performances to public and private schools throughout our community, and extend the reach of the Museum far beyond the physical walls of our building. Designed for grades pre-K through 5th grade, Imaginators-on-the-Go offers an in-school field trip experience with a dynamic and interactive theatre production, as well as special interactive classroom workshops that bring the learning to life. Assembly Performances and Workshop sessions incorporate Georgia Performance Standards.
