Help us amplify civil rights, human rights, and social justice stories in the lead up to Super Bowl LIII

About the Project

(Cover image: Off the Wall Mural Design by Yehimi Cambron)

At the heart of Off the Wall is an ancient practice that remains vital to today's movements for justice: storytelling

Off the Wall: Atlanta's Civil Rights & Social Justice Journey is a city-wide initiative led by WonderRoot and the Atlanta Super Bowl Host Committee engaging 10 artists, 43 Community Partner Organizations and over 1,000 Atlantans to tell the stories of their community's journey toward justice. When Super Bowl LIII comes to Atlanta in February, millions of people will turn their eyes to our city. Through Community Conversation, media and ultimately 30 permanent murals around Downtown Atlanta, Off the Wall leverages the visibility of this moment to amplify stories of civil rights, human rights and social justice.
(Learn more about Off the Wall's process at www.offthewallatl.org.)

Voiced by partners* such as Ebenezer Baptist Church, the Latino Community Fund GA, Georgia Equality, and the Partnership Against Domestic Violence these stories embody the past, present and future of movements for justice in Atlanta and beyond. Our team of exceptionally talented artists* have made these stories sing through a collection of breathtaking murals that illuminate some of our society's most painful truths as well as some of our most inspiring visions for the future.

( * View a complete list of Community Partners and Artists at www.offthewallatl.org.)

By contributing to Off the Wall you enable these stories to reach more eyes and ears, to change more hearts and minds, and to better position us to affect lasting change in our communities.

Your donation:

  • Compensates Off the Wall artists for their mural design and installation work.
  • Amplifies the work of our Community Partners who are on the front-lines of movements for justice in Atlanta.
  • Covers the cost of mural installation supplies.
  • Enables activation events at Off the Wall mural sites.
FAQ:
Who is WonderRoot? WonderRoot is an arts organization that works to improve the cultural and social landscape of Atlanta through creative initiatives and community partnerships. Our mission is to unite artists and community to inspire positive social change. At WonderRoot, we believe that lasting change occurs at tension points: where the imaginative “wondering” of what a more equitable Atlanta might look like meets the “rooted” in community work to organize around our shared vision for the future.

How was WonderRoot selected?
WonderRoot was not selected by anyone, the idea for Off the Wall and the design of the project both came from WonderRoot’s team. In the Fall of 2017, WonderRoot looked ahead to Atlanta's upcoming Super Bowl and saw an opportunity to leverage the national platform of the event to give Atlantans a way to tell our city's story of struggle for civil rights, human rights and social justice. We used our past Creative Placemaking work in Atlanta as the model on which to design Off the Wall.

Is NFL a formal sponsor? The NFL is not a sponsor of Off the Wall, nor are they involved in any phase of the process. To execute this initiative, WonderRoot has partnered with Atlanta Super Bowl Host Committee, a private non-profit organization. The Host Committee serves as liaison between the NFL, the City of Atlanta, and the surrounding community to plan, organize and support activities and events which will enhance the Super Bowl experience for the city, the state and the Southeast region. Off the Wall is one piece of the Host Committee’s Legacy 53 initiative; learn more at www.atlsuperbowl53.com
