Tapestry Music Project ~ Building Musical Bridges for Children of Immigrant Families
About the Project
Families new to the United States often face special challenges. Numerous studies show that music
classes and lessons are a wonderful way to help children feel connected
and confident, learn the English language, and boost academic achievement. However, acquiring musical instruments and enrolling in
music lessons is often a financial impossibility.
Please help us buy violins so we may place them into the hands of immigrant children in need of the social and academic benefits of music.
Through the Washington Conservatory Tapestry Music Project for immigrant families, free violin classes will be taught to third, fourth and fifth grade children of families of the non-profit Montgomery Housing Partnership.
Since Tapestry Music Project was launched in spring of 2017 Washington Conservatory has provided free weekly Early Childhood Music classes to over 280 children ages 4 & 5 at five housing sites of the non-profit Montgomery Housing Partnership. A free 5-day summer beginning violin camp was provided for children ages 7 - 11 in partnership with CASA de Maryland, and inspiring concerts by the world-renowned Spanish Brass were presented to 700 students, parents and faculty of Arcola Elementary School in Silver Spring, MD. In addition, low-cost individual music lessons are offered to economically disadvantaged young musicians from other countries, at both our Westmoreland Circle and Glen Echo Park sites.
Every $300 raised will purchase one student violin package: a violin, a violin bow and a case to carry them in. Help us reach our goal of $9,000 and providing 30 violins for 30 eager children! These classes are ongoing - as we raise more funds to purchase violins, we are able to add more students!
Our generous sponsors will contribute $1 for every $1 donated to this project up to $4,500 ! (pending matching fund availability)
