Project Creation FAQs
Who can post a project?
501(c)(3)organizations located in Mecklenburg County that have received funding from the Arts & Science Council (ASC) in the last five years. Organizations can post projects that are considered arts, science, history or heritage that have a cost up to $10,000.
What information is required to post a project?
Project Title, Funding Amount, Campaign Start and End Dates, Project Categories, Project Photos, and Project Narrative are needed to submit a project. A video is optional but strongly encouraged.
What are my responsibilities as a project poster?
Project posters are responsible for submitting all information and ensuring that it is truthful and accurate; marketing your projects to your constituencies and potential donors; thanking donors and distributing donor benefits, and following up with donors upon project completion.
What happens if I forgot my password?
Simply click the 'forgot password' link under the log in box to reset your password. You will be sent a password reset link via email.
What happens if my project is only partially funded when it expires?
All donations on power2give are made directly to ASC. It is the ASC's intention to honor the expressed purpose of the gift by directing those dollars to the organization and project chosen by the donor. It is ASC's intention to provide donations to qualified 501(c)(3) posting organizations even if the project is only partially funded when it expires. In such cases, it is then your responsibility to keep all donors informed as to how the project might change as a result of receiving less funding than requested.
What happens if I don't thank my donors?
While donors will receive an automatically system-generated email thanking them for their gift, power2give.org requires all posters to separately send a thank you to donors (either electronically or by mail). By not thanking donors you not only run the risk of losing donor loyalty but also your 'good standing' status with ASC, which could potentially lead to account deactivation.
What is a "poster in good standing"?
Being a "poster in good standing" means you have upheld your responsibilities as a project poster, used the received funds appropriately, and thanked and stewarded donors promptly.
Why am I required to upload a photo to my project?
Our goal is to make projects as compelling and visually appealing as possible. Having a photograph associated with the projects displayed with the project title helps connect donors more to your cause.
What if I don't have a photo of my project or permission to upload photos of actual people?
The picture you submit should reflect your project and be compelling but does not necessarily have to be of a particular person. Your organization's logo or a picture of an object or place associated with your project are also appropriate options.
When does an account become deactivated? What does it mean for the project poster?
power2give.org exists to make the giving experience as engaging as possible for both the organizations and the donors. To ensure the integrity of the site and the trust the donor puts into power2give.org, we may choose to deactivate any user if they are in violation of the Terms & Conditions. The most egregious include posters who have been found to be misusing funds, not properly thanking donors in a timely fashion, and not fulfilling donor benefits. However, power2give.org has the sole discretion for deactivating users if given a valid reason. Account holders with "posters in good standing" accounts will remain active.
Can I edit my project narrative, donor benefits or information once I submit it for review or once it has been posted to the site?
You cannot edit a project once the information has been approved by your local curator. However, if you have necessary changes, contact the power2give.org team and we will make the edits.
When will I receive the funds from my project?
It is ASC's intention to send you the funds received from your project within 10 business days after the project has expired on the site. Please be sure to choose your end date appropriately if you need the funds by a certain date.
How will the funds my project receives be distributed?
You will receive the funds in the same manner that you regularly receive funding from ASC, usually by check or EFT.
How do I know who donated to my project and how much?
As donors give to your project, you will receive a notification of the gift that includes the gift amount, donor name, and donor email so you will always have a continuous stream of who is donating to your project. You can always access all donor information to any of your projects by selecting "My Campaigns" from the drop-down menu in the upper right part of your Dashboard page. From there you select the project and select "Donations" from the lower right of the screen. From this donations page, you can download the donation data to your hard drive as a CSV (Excel) file.
Why does ASC withhold a 12% administrative fee?
As much as we would like our project posters and their organizations to receive all of the funding from the site, we still need to keep the lights on, pay our staff, and make new developments to keep the site fresh and current. Your donors can choose to cover the administrative fee for their donation so you can receive 100% of their intended gift. We have found that on average, 80% of donors choose to cover their fees. The donor covered fees do not include any fees collected on the matching funds, if applicable.
Do I have to account for the 12% administrative fee when I am calculating the funding amount for my project, or will power2give factor it in?
Yes, we encourage you to add 13.635% to the budget so the total amount of funding received is the correct amount you need to complete your initiative.
Is there a minimum or maximum amount a project can cost?
No, there is no minimum amount; however, the maximum project amount is $10,000. Larger projects can be divided into phases if appropriate.
Can I re-submit an expired project?
If a project has expired but was not fully funded, it may be resubmitted, but we recommend you revise and edit it to try a different approach to receive the full funding amount.
How many projects can I have active on power2give.org at once?
There is no limit on the amount of projects you can have active on the site at once. We recommend you only post the number of projects you have the capacity to promote effectively.
How do I make my project interesting and compelling for donors?
Start with a compelling title, colorful picture, and descriptive narrative. A short video about your project is also strongly recommended.
Are there any precautions I should take when submitting my project photo?
Ensure that your picture is appropriate and may be legally used. If you are submitting a photo of a person, please ensure you have their permission to use their photo as a part of power2give.org.
What if my organization is unable to complete the project directly following the time we receive the funds?
If your organization plans to complete the project at a later date, please make this clear in the project narrative and when you follow up with your donors who have given to the project. The tangible connection to the project is an important piece of your donor loyalty.
Why won't my YouTube or Vimeo video link properly?
Make sure that you are using the actual URL for the video and not the shortcut URL that YouTube provides. The actual URL is the one in the navigation bar at the top of the browser window.
What size should the TILE image file be for my project?
We recommend that the tile image is 720 x 500 pixels. This image will be used when displaying your campaign as a tile on power2give.
What size should the COVER image file be for my project?
Choose a high-resolution, widescreen cover photo to display on your campaign page. We do not recommend using images with text as our website is format sensitive, which means that images will automatically adjust to fit a variety of devices including smartphones, tablets and desktops.
